NewEye Museum is an innovative service concept developed by Talia Brigneti and myself for a Service Design class, in a time period of five weeks.
Deliverables A business model, a business plan and a multi-format business pitch to a panel of potential investors.
Our design process began by researching existing museums and trends. This was followed by two brainstorming sessions. The first one focused on innovative places a museum could be located, and the second focused on themes for museums. Simultaneously, we researched existing problems and social needs in different cities and cultures. We found a list of the unhappiest cities in the US, which revealed that the city of Atlanta is located in the top five. Through doing some desktop research about the cause of unhappiness in city of Atlanta, we decided to focus on learning about local museums, their strengths and weaknesses, to find opportunities for innovation. As part of our development we focused on using business and design tools, such as, a swot analysis, a business model canvas, a blue ocean strategy canvas, personas, value propositions, use scenarios, and service blueprints. We finalized the project by developing a business plan.
NewEye Museum is a non-profit organization that will provide art and design education for the community. The business will be located in the city of Atlanta and it will be divided into two premises: The main museum, located in Blandtown, Fulton County, just outside Atlanta’s midtown area; and the Creative Hubs, which will be located in Clayton County. The first part will consist of a series of studios, known as Creative Hubs, which will be strategically located in some of Atlanta’s poorest neighborhoods. The Hubs will be a learning environment where art will be produced by people from the local community. The product of all work produced at the Hub will be based on the style of a specific artist with whom the museum will collaborate. The artist will teach his/her style to interns of NewEye, who will then pass on their knowledge to the members at the Creative Hubs. The best work produced at the Hubs by the end of a period will be selected for exhibition at the Museum. The Museum will be a small establishment of elegant design and inviting appearance where a more upscale segment of customers will be able to enjoy the exhibitions.
Mission To empower the community through creative expression by facilitating art creation and providing a space for art appreciation.
Vision A community unified by art, for we believe art is a driving force within every person enabling self-expression and self-realization through the power of creation and appreciation.
NewEye’s Mission and Vision will run under the implementation of a set of values that the company promises to bestow upon every member and incorporate in every activity. These values will include collaboration, social involvement, social empowerment, passion, creativity, originality and finally, integrity.
NewEye is not about raising egos; it is about sharing, collaborating, and enjoying art creation and appreciation. The key purpose of the experience, therefore, is to learn from working with others and feel the gratification of contributing towards the foundation of an empowered and unified community.
